Leeds-based band, Jeanine, took the penultimate slot of the Well Street Common Festival’s live music showcase last Sunday, 14th Jun 2026.
Fortunately starting without the frustrating sound issues that had plagued local band (and current cover stars of my own magazine, The Young Dudes) Lazy Jane, the trio played a set of entirely new material not found on last year’s EP, starting with a track called ‘Nails’.
The performance was powered by chorus-heavy guitars backed by fluid bass lines that maintained a bouncy groove throughout.
They moved quickly to the next song, where vocalist Louis announced, ‘This one has a harmonica on it’, before a slow blow-and-draw intro led into ‘Always You’, the song I consider to be the highlight of their set.

Before the final number, the band were amusingly tasked with announcing that the dog show’s award ceremony would take place immediately after the music. Then they could get back to the business of playing, and a song that they’d premiered in Manchester two weeks earlier.
Perfecting what Nails had been doing earlier in the set, with chorus-laden guitars and a bass line so heavy you’d worry might leave the bass player injured, they incorporate a flurry of beat-drops between each verse and chorus.
With retrospective lyrics that remain vague enough to be relatable to pretty much any listener, Jeanine avoids becoming poncy, (an issue that not every band successfully avoids).
A 10/10 recommended performance for me, and one that can luckily be seen again by you too, as they will be supporting Araya and Comafields at Paper Dress Vintage, on Tues 23rd Jun.
